Liberia's Truth and Reconciliation Commission completed its work and in its final report, issued several recommendations in 2009 that included the establishment of a special court for war crimes committed pre and during the civil war.
However, despite many promises by the governments, a court has never materialized. War victims continue to cry out for justice, but their cries have gone only fallen on deaf ears. It’s high time that Liberia ends the culture of impunity and conduct its own trials.
The government of Joseph Nyuma Boakai has recently taken a bold step to set up the office of war and economic crimes court, which advocates hope, will address the long standing issues of impunity and bring justice to Liberia.
